2024 Impact Report
On an average day in 2024, The Homeless ID Project saw 70 clients, providing more than 50 documents (IDs and Birth Certificates), and safe storage for 20 of these documents.
Our Clients’ Needs
Advocacy
Because of the relationship we’ve built with the Arizona Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division (MVD), an MVD Customer Service Representative was assigned to our office effective July 31, 2023 and as of fall of 2024 we have a virtual ADOT/MVD kiosk allowing customers to participate in a virtual MVD experience right here in our offices!
This is a huge win for our clients who will no longer be required to take a 45-minute bus ride to the nearest MVD office.

A Wider Focus
The work of ending homelessness is greatly aided by preventing individuals from entering homelessness and in 2024 we spent some of our time focused there.
• In one of our outreach programs we helped more than 1,000 individuals gain documents needed post-incarceration to rebuild their life, to avoid falling into homelessness or reoffending.
• We expanded outreach services, providing 4,000 documents in partner agencies across Maricopa and Pima Counties.
We continued our focus on prevention of homelessness by providing the resource of a legally valid ID needed to open opportunities not available without proof of identity.
Social Return on Investment
Funded by your donations, Homeless ID Project saved the community $38.3 million in 2024, returning $64* for every dollar invested.
Homelessness is expensive.
And, let’s be honest: not every document is used to end a client’s homelessness.
So let’s assume only a rate of 10% of these documents are used to end homelessness.
According to USICH**…
the community spends $30,000 annually to maintain a person homeless and on the street.
Furthermore, we did this work with total expenses of $600,000 resulting in a return on your investment in this work of $64 for every single dollar invested! ($38.3 million divided by $600,000 in Expenses = $63.85)
Another of our Seven Core Values is this: We recognize and value the support of the community and pledge to be good stewards of that support. We believe that a return of $64 per dollar invested in this work, turning a $495 tax credit into a $31,680 return, is a serious demonstration of that value.
NOTES: *12,765 documents; times 10%; times $30,000 equals $38.3 million saved. That savings divided by $600K annual expense for 2024
results in $63.85 saved per dollar spent. **USICH – United States Interagency Council on Homelessness.
