Meeting Clients Where They Are in the West Valley
We’re thrilled to announce that Homeless ID Project will be serving clients in the City of Surprise as of August 2025! As the need continues to grow in Arizona’s West Valley, we’re bringing our services directly to the people who need them most—those experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity who are unable to travel to downtown Phoenix or other outreach locations for support.
A Growing Need in the West Valley
Homelessness is not just a downtown or urban issue. Across Maricopa County, cities like Surprise, Tolleson, Goodyear, and Peoria are seeing a rising number of individuals and families without stable housing. Yet access to services—especially critical ones like identification and documentation—is limited in these areas.
That’s where we come in.
With the opening of our new outreach site in Surprise, Homeless ID Project is continuing its mission to remove barriers and provide identification services where they’re needed most. Our Surprise location will help ensure that no one is turned away from opportunities simply because they lack a government-issued ID or a birth certificate.
Why ID Matters
At Homeless ID Project, we often say that an ID is more than just a card—it’s a key. Identification is essential for:
- Accessing housing and shelter services
- Applying for jobs and unemployment benefits
- Enrolling in school or job training programs
- Getting healthcare, mental health support, or substance abuse treatment
- Reuniting with family and community resources
Without an ID, even the most motivated person can find themselves stuck in a cycle of homelessness and exclusion. That’s why we focus on this first step out of homelessness.

Meeting Clients Where They Are
We recognize that many of our clients face mobility issues, lack of transportation, or other barriers that prevent them from traveling to our main office at the Key Campus in Phoenix. By expanding to Surprise, we’re eliminating one of those barriers and bringing services closer to home.
This new outreach location is more than a convenience—it’s a lifeline for individuals who would otherwise go without help.
Our program specialists will be on-site to assist with applications, document retrieval, and coordination with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and other agencies. Whether someone needs a replacement ID, birth certificate, or other vital record, we’re there to help.
A Community-Based Approach to Ending Homelessness
We are grateful for the support of the City of Surprise and the broader West Valley community. This expansion represents an important step forward in our effort to end homelessness in Arizona—one document at a time.
Suppose you are a local service provider or community partner interested in collaborating at our Surprise site, or in another city that would like us to come in and serve your community. In that case, we’d love to hear from you. You can reach us here!
