Homeless ID Project helps individuals and families experiencing homelessness obtain the identification documents they need to access employment, housing, healthcare, benefits and other essential services.

We remove the barriers that can make obtaining an ID extraordinarily difficult for someone experiencing homelessness.

These services are provided at no cost to the client, thanks to generous community support.

Why Identification Matters

At the Homeless ID Project, we believe no one should be denied housing, work, or healthcare simply because they lack a piece of identification.  Without an ID → barriers to employment, housing, healthcare, benefits, banking, education, treatment, etc.

We exist to open those doors.

The Homeless ID Project is the state’s only full-time provider of Identification Replacement Services for people experiencing homelessness.

Help is provided, at no cost, to domestic violence survivors, kids aging out of foster care, Veterans and seniors.

An ID is the first step toward exiting homelessness. Without identification, a person will face barriers to employment, housing, healthcare, government benefits, banking, education, treatment and other services. An ID doesn’t end homelessness, but it can allow someone to begin ending it.

Many of the resources designed to help someone regain stability require proof of identity. Without an ID, a person may be unable to get a job, sign a lease, purchase a cell phone, open a bank account or receive certain healthcare and treatment services. Replacing identification removes one of the first barriers standing in the way.

We partner with more than 60 nonprofits and community organizations that provide housing, employment, healthcare, treatment and other services to help people exit homelessness. Many of these services require an ID before they can help. By providing that important first step, we help our partners do what they do best: help people rebuild their lives.

Obtaining an ID can be much more difficult without reliable transportation, money, supporting documents or a mailing address (source: US Govt Accountability Office). Homeless ID Project helps remove these barriers through free services, assistance obtaining supporting documents and a partnership with the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division that includes secure Tele-MVD technology.

Community support helps cover the cost of obtaining IDs, birth certificates and other documents for people experiencing homelessness. It also helps fund our office, equipment and employees to help clients successfully navigate the identification process.

No. Homeless ID Project receives no government funding. Our work is made possible by individual donors, businesses, foundations, sponsors and community partners. Their support allows us to provide IDs, birth certificates and other essential identification services at no cost to people experiencing homelessness. Every ID we provide is made possible by the community.
